7 Ways I Plan to Level Up

It’s been 7 years since I graduated from the university and it calls for some reflection and self-analysis. Looking back at all those years and seeing how far I have soared. I am indeed very grateful as I am not where I was when my journey first began. However, there is so much space in the sky and an daunting level of heights I am yet to attain. Hence the need to continually push forward to level up.

As I sat in the car this morning, I thought, why not just create a plan. You know all that talk about SMART goals? Why not get specific about how I plan to get to the next season of my career. How do I plan to level up? Interestingly, Ciara has us doing the #levelup challenge with her new music. So, I decided to not only write my plans in my diary but to also share them with you. That way, you too could get inspired.

My Plan to Level Up

Train

I made this resolution at the beginning of this month which was why I attended the New Media Conference and since then, I have been on the lookout for more training and conferences that I can attend to level up. There are a few that I need to pay for. In fact, I am looking to have another master’s degree in digital marketing or a professional certification. This week, I have the Google for Nigeria training and then in 2 weeks, I have the Facebook creators training. There are so many like that- some are free and some you need to pay for. Tosin Ajibade of Olorisupergal has one for influencer marketing as well. If you know of any, please drop them in the comment section. The last major training I had was the Feemo one on Basic Video Editing Skills which gave birth to our YouTube Channel.

Research

While I am training and getting all these certifications, I am also researching. In fact, they go hand in hand. After training, something new is going to happen and you need to be aware. As a media person, a lot is coming out and the internet has something new to break. So, I am committed to keeping my knowledge base fresh by researching. Sometimes, I feel like I don’t have so much time, but I am going to consciously create time to research. That way, you are not caught unawares. By the way, great and intelligent conversations are also a means of researching. Some human beings are just the encyclopedia that you need to level up.

Network

While training and researching, I am hoping that I meet great minds that I can reach out to. There are people that could really help you level up and you just need to be on the lookout. I am hungry to collaborate with other media personalities, keen on meeting people who will get me on that big break that I am looking out for. I want to be a millionaire girl, looking at my bank account and know that I can help people yet live a great life, leaving a lot more also for the next generation. Impact is key and that’s where my head is right now.

Character Assessment

I am currently reading a book by G. Fagbure. In one of the chapters, he talked about telling yourself the truth. To make progress in my career, I need to assess my character.  I subscribe to the school of thought that says, beauty attracts the eyes but personality captures the heart. You are your best judge, I don’t mean what you tell others or what you try to make others see or how you say, ‘this is how I am’ but, taking time to really assess your character. Please forget those who will try to put you down and choose to misunderstand your every move. Girl, bye! Just take time to reflect and say, “Oma you are xyz and this has got to go for you to level up”. Now, that’s real, serious talk.

Mental Stability

Protecting my peace in all of this is very key to me. In times past, I have had to deal with some toxic situations. Therefore, the previous plan is key- character assessment. First, ensure that you are not the problem and if you are, you need to dispel whatever it is that is arousing the problem. Once you have been able to do that, you exude peace and protect it at all cost. There will always be external influences, but you need to figure out how to ensure that it doesn’t affect your mental health. There is so much talk on depression right now and for me, I choose happiness.

Financial Management

For the past 7years, I have worked so hard but cannot exactly speak on any tangible savings or investments that I have made. While reflecting, I have decided to level up by ensuring that I take steps towards creating a savings culture. I also wish to invest in in something other than my business which I am currently trying to build.

Spiritual Growth

This is not cliché at all. It is the bedrock upon which all good things come. As an undergraduate, this was the number one core value of my University. 7years after, it is the core of my life. As I sat at work today, I said this prayer to God, “I am sorry for the times I have taken prayer for granted”. I will tell you a quick story shared by a business entrepreneur on Instagram. She was worried about the cost of her goods- how to make profit yet make it affordable for her customers. According to her, as she kept worrying about the margin in comparison to other retailers, she heard God ask her if she thought she was making all the sales because of her price? That was God letting her know He had his hand in her business. Yesterday, a colleague who doesn’t believe in religion resorted to prayers during the chaos at work. God is it for me and really, it goes beyond religion- a story reserved for another post.

What is your plan to level up? I will like to hear from you and who knows, I may have a something to help you in making it come to past or someone reading this could just stumble on your comment.
